“We want a whole-school bonding, We try to really build up the full school and community.”
The 2020-2021 school year proved once again why contact@queenslandhighschool.com(QHS) is such a great school! The academic program was a combination of in-class studies and online learning when Covid-19 forced the closure of all Ontario schools numerous times throughout the year. Once again, thanks to the efforts of our staff, students, and parents, QHS was able to effortlessly adjust to either mode of instruction. We also expanded our online course offerings to international and local non-QHS students on a part-time basis.
There were many in-school highlights, as QHS continued to build its academic programming including French Immersion courses for Grade 9 and 10 students and AP exams for 175 Secondary students. QHS students also successfully competed in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge and the Canadian Chemistry Contest. Furthermore, our online University Fair hosted twenty top universities and colleges and enabled our students to have access to the various school representatives, in order to make informed choices about their programs. Finally, we continued our online Parent/Guardian/Student-Teacher interviews, with over one hundred families involved in the event.
The BP1 Basketball team doubled its enrollment numbers from 20 to 40 students and also introduced a Girl’s team. Although our teams were not able to compete due to Covid-19, the coaching staff, led by Wayne Dawkins, was still able to offer a robust online and in-person training program, which was approved by Toronto Public Health.
We also had many highlights towards the end of the academic year including a very engaging Reflections and Hope online student talent show led by Mr. Jacob and Ms. Luk, our Yearbook Cover Art contest, and our Virtual Graduation ceremonies for our 2019/20 and 2020/21 graduates.
Once again, I would also like to thank our staff, students, and their parents for their patience, flexibility, and assistance in the continuation of our academic program. It is always challenging when you remove the in-person social component from a student’s education experience. However, our QHS community collectively strived to ensure the best possible academic results for our students.
QHS is a great school and all of us involved are the better for it! I hope you find as much joy in this yearbook as our school community did in creating these memories placed before you.
Be bold and be ready for a new start in September!
